The workshop on entrepreneurship development for women was held in Bangkok Thailand, from 18-29 September, 1995, sponsored by the Colombo Plan Staff College for Technician Education, Manila, Philippines and the Department of Technical and Economic Cooperation (DTEC) Bangkok, Thailand in collaboration with Adelaide Institute of TAFE. Delegates attended from Fiji, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines and Thailand.
The purpose of the workshop was to motivate and train a core group of trainers of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) systems in the basic concepts and principles as well as the tools and techniques of entrepreneurship development as related to women technicians. This paper investigates the vocational education and training (VET) system in the United Kingdom focussing on the introduction of a diverse set of laws and systems designed to promote VET. The authors discuss the Industrial Training Act (1964) which transformed VET into a tripartite system; the publication of the green paper ‘The learning age’ (indexed at TD/IRD 88.177) in 1998 which includes new ideas in lifelong learning; the New Deal program launched in 1997 to provide training for the unemployed; and other acts such as the Further and Higher Education Act (1992) and the Learning and Skills Act (2000).
